Welcome to South Boston Virginia, Halifax County and Beautiful South Central Virginia

Halifax County is the third largest county in the state
of Virginia, and it was formed in 1752 after the General Assembly ordered that the county of Lunenburg be divided into two counties. The county was named for George Montague Dunk, the Second Earl of Halifax.

South Boston is on north-south and east-west major US highways. There is north-south rail service, and air service provided by William M. Tuck Airport, three miles east of South Boston. Commuter air service is provided by Danville Regional Airport 30 miles west, and Raleigh-Durham International Airport 65 miles south.
South Boston offers a wide variety of shops and stores, both downtown and in outlying shopping centers, provides all the goods and services the community needs right at home. Two local radio stations and the two local newspapers serve the area.
